Frequently Asked Questions

What are the costs?

Fees are due two weeks after riding begins for the quarter.
$400 for the entire year
$150 for one quarter
$50 show team fee (additional/if applicable)

What else does CPDT have to offer?

We will have social events throughout the quarter such as dinners, movie nights, line dancing, or yoga/pilates classes! Check here, our emails, and social media for updates on these events!

What are feeding shift responsibilities?

All team members must complete at least one feeding shift a quarter. Once the schedule has been made please make sure to go to your assigned shift or email our horse manager as soon as possible at calpolydressageteam@gmail.com to request a shift change! Feedings help keep our member dues low and care for our horses, thank you in advance for your help.

How often can you ride?

We try to allow at least one practice a week for every member who wants to ride! Until the end of show season, 1-2 days of the week will be reserved for show team only. Our goal is to get members who want to ride, riding. We truly try our best to allow that as often as desired, but keep in mind that coach/member schedules, other teams, and classes at the horse unit will need to be considered and respected.

Do you need your own horse?

No!! We will provide one of our horses for practice! Some members choose to board their horses on campus, and then use them for practice- which is great... But you are not at all required or expected to have your own horse to use during practice!

How do practices work?

Once practice times have been assigned and you have signed up for a spot, allow for one hour before and after your practice time for transportation, grooming, and tacking purposes. Practices are great for riding experience, show team training, and growth in dressage skills. There will usually be 1-3 people riding in a practice, and you are highly encouraged and expected to stay for the other riders times.

What is Ride High Alexis?

In the beginning of the 2018 year, we lost one of our members, Alexis Gardner. Alexis served our team as a dedicated horse manager and constantly prioritized the health and happiness of our horses. Her natural talent as a rider awarded her outstanding scores in the current IDA show season and the title of Lower Training Champion for the 2016-2017 season. Our "Ride High Alexis" references are in memory and celebration of our teammate and friend.
